My First Blog Post
Welcome to The Sports Overload! My name is Joey Pelosi and I’m 21 years old based out of Milledgeville, GA. I am a junior at Georgia College and State University with a study in Mass Communication. I am writing this blog because of my passion in sports related topics including the recent death of Kobe Bryant, the upcoming SuperBowl, and the Winter X games. The tragedy of Kobe Bryant will forever be in the memories of the people that cared a great deal about him. The topic for my blog will be sports but I will mostly touch on specifics in college football, professional baseball, and the NBA. The theme I chose is a morning sunrise with a mountain background because it shows how I will be posting in the AM and it gets a good vibe with the early birds. I feel I am the right person for this topic because I have a sports related background as a Public Relations Director for the Athletic Department for my school by writing press releases for individual players on their achievements and accolades. Being in this position has given me the opportunity to spread my wings and the confidence to speak freely about sports than ever before. This has taught me to correctly find relevant information on the players statistics and stories about their games. I am confident in the sports world because I surround myself with co-workers who speak about the trending news in almost every sport’s related field on a daily basis. This topic embraces who I am because I grew up around almost every sport in my early ages and revolved my life about the sports-related world. I hope to bring relevant and trending information to my followers as well as feedback about your opinions on my topic. The sources I will be referencing to are Sporting News, SkySports, and SB Nation Blogs.

Kobe Bryant’s Death

Kobe Bryant was one of the best American basketball players in all the NBA. He touched so many lives around the world with him joining the NBA as a young teenager and was a five-time champion with the Lakers.
When Kobe was in high school, he was one of those athletes that comes every so often and was drafted to the Los Angeles Lakers in 1996.
Kobe, his daughter Gigi, and 7 other personnel perished in a plane crash near Calabasas, California. Reports said that the crash could have led to mechanical failure and the fog being too thick due to the altitude of the helicopter.
The pilot was said to be certified and flew many similar routes in all of California and is now being investigated by officials about why this time was different that the others. Reporters from The New York Times said, “The helicopter fell at a rate of about 23 miles per hour and slammed into the hill in a “high energy impact crash.”
According to CNN Gianna (Gigi), her basketball teammates and their coach were heading to a basketball game when bystanders reported a fatal crash.
The Los Angeles Lakers honored Bryant during the game against the Blazers and was said to be an emotional game. The players did things like running the clock until it hit 24 second, 24 minutes, 8 seconds and 8 minutes to pay tribute to the basketball king.
Kobe Bryant was a real star athlete that everyone will remember and his whole life and career will live on for many generations. He and his daughter the best connection a father and daughter could ask for because Kobe retired in 2016 from the Lakers and decided to coach Gigi’s basketball team. Kobe you were one of a kind, R.I.P Black Mamba.

Kansas City’s Comeback for the Win

The Kansas City Chiefs won Super Bowl 54 against the San Francisco 49ers last Sunday at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida.
The Chiefs started out rough in the first half by three touchdowns but towards the fourth quarter Patrick Mahomes carried the team and did what every great quarterback should be able to do, keep your head up and win.
A Georgia College student said, “Patrick Mahomes will always have surprises to his fans and this was a one of them, keeping the game alive.”
After half time, Mahomes played below average for his skills but some motivation came upon him because of all the pressure that he was under. He passed for 286 passing yards total, threw two interceptions, rushed for forty-four yards and ran for a touchdown.
Sporting
news says, “This is why Mahomes was named Super Bowl 54 MVP despite his
throwing a pair of costly interceptions and posting a passer rating of 78.1,
his second-lowest of the season.”
Patrick Mahomes is and will be the number one quarter back in the nation
because of this game. He has had many comebacks in his career but having a
ten-point difference in the fourth quarter of the Super Bowl really shows what
this man can do with the arm that he has.
Mahomes was supported by his best receivers which included: Tyreek Hill,
Travis Kelce and Sammy Watkins. The running back, Damien Williams, also put in
a good amount of work to bring the Chiefs back in action with 104 rushing
yards.
USA
today said, “In his first three seasons, he has won MVP, a Super Bowl and a
Super Bowl MVP. It’s Absurd to have this much success so early in his career.”
Let me also remind you that Mahomes is only 24 years old and has a lot ahead of
him in his bright future for this great football program.
Stay tuned for next week’s post. I’ll be discussing the stats on the AT&T Pebble Beach Pre-Am!
Nick Taylor Wins AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am Tournament
The AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am took place this past weekend on the Pebble Beach Golf Links in California, February 6-9th. This tournament is a once in a lifetime opportunity with an entry fee of $25,000 to compete with the best players from the PGA Tour’s throughout the world.
Nick Taylor from Canada took home the win by hitting a -19 par throughout the past three days following Kevin Streelman from the United States in second place with a -15 par and Phil Mickelson from the United States in third with a -14 par.
A Georgia College student said, “Nick Taylor deserved this win because of the fantastic swings he took off the tee, how he caught up towards the last 5 holes and the practice he has put towards this tournament to make it thus far.” s
Taylor had to deal with terrible winds and hard weather in the final round of the last eight holes which made him feel uneasy about being tied with Mickelson.
During the first 9 holes, Golf News reported Mickelson was confident in his third-round performance on Friday and Saturday and knocked in a birdie on a par-4 2nd hole to tie the lead with Nick Taylor. After Mickelson’s birdie, Taylor did what every great golfer dreams of doing, bringing a competitive comeback.
According to Golf Digest, Taylor took home $1.4 million following Streelman with $850,200 and Mickelson with $538,200.
Nick Taylor’s career in his PGA Tour started in his rookie season in the Sanderson Farms Championship in 2014. He came into this tournament ranked at No. 229 in the world and became the first Canadian to win the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.
USA Today said, “That was amazing,” Taylor said. “Up and down day. I knew I could do it because I’ve done it before. But to do it today against Phil at Pebble, amazing.”
Tune in next week, I’ll be discussing the newest recruits for the University of Georgia’s Football program!
University of Georgia’s incoming recruits
The University of Georgia’s football program coached by Kirby Smart is number one in recruiting classes in all of Georgia according to 247Sports Composite rankings. Georgia had led many 4 and 5-star recruits over the past couple years including Jake Fromm, D’Andre Swift, Richard LeCounte lll, Isiah Wilson and DeAngleo Gibbs.
Because of these young men, younger 4-star recruits like Kendall Milton (Clovis, CA), Jalen Kimber (Arlington, TX), Major Burns (Baton Rouge, LA) and Carson Beck (Jacksonville, FL) show more talent than any football player going into college football.
Head Coach Kirby Smart says “character,” is the most important thing when recruiting in 2020. “Georgia is and always will have the best recruiting class” said Kyle King, a longtime Georgia fan. “They build young guys into men by making them realize that this is real and can become your life one day.” King believes that due to Georgia coming close to the national championship every year, he has reason to suspect that the recruiting will never change.
Kendall Milton, 6’1” weighing 215, integrating as a running back for Georgia can be a huge threat to leading defensive programs as in The University of Alabama and 2020 National Championship winner, Louisiana State University.
One thing that had came true to The University of Georgia is their desire to be bring a recruiting class than the next leading team. To bring the same effort and hard work in practice and build it up for game time whether it be at home in Athens or away.
“Georgia football’s 2020 recruiting class will be the end of LSU this year,” said Paul Stegenga, a fan that has been to every UGA football game. “These players will bring everything that they have this coming season and will bring home the national title to Athens.”
Next week I’ll be discussing why The Atlanta Braves are going to come close to the World Series this year.
